Background

For: directors and head teachers (read and write), the class teacher of the student (read)

The Background is a confidential free text about a student, for example the family situation or special needs, with at most 4000 characters.

Who can see it

• Directors
• Head teachers of a school the student belongs to
• The class teacher of the stream the student sits in today. When the student changes stream, the new class teacher can read the background from that day, and the previous one no longer can.

Everyone else does not see the section, and cannot tell whether a background exists.

Read the background

The background is never shown automatically, also not in lists or search results. The record only says A background is recorded with the date of the last change.

1. Open the student record, section Background.
2. Choose Show background. Hide hides the text again.

Every time the background is shown, this is recorded in the audit log. On shared devices, hide the text and sign out when you are done.

Write or change the background

Directors and head teachers choose Add background or Edit background, write the text and choose Save. Every change creates a new version with the author and the time; earlier versions stay readable under Versions and cannot be deleted. Class teachers can read but not change the background.
